The concept of this project is very special to me because I was inspired by the passing of my grandpa Jido Amin. I wanted to look at death in a different perspective not as a lost or in a religious sense, I want to look at death as something beautiful in its own unique sense.
So my first thought was,
"how do I look at death in a positive way?" Then I thought of recycling.
You know when you recycle a piece of plastic it could turn into t-shirts, sweaters, fleece jackets, insulation for jackets and sleeping bags, carpeting and more bottles. So the plastic is reborn as these new amazing things, that's how I want to perceive death.
When we die we could be reborn into another soul, a cat, a starfish or maybe another cloud in the sky. Maybe even while we are being reborn we experience things like purity and enlightenment and maybe even so much more. That's what I've done with my drapage project here, I melted and hardened plastic with fire, epoxy resin and colorful powders to create my garment.
